The Boy in the Orange Cape
@wellreadwellled
We’ve been focusing heavily on social-emotional learning this year in third grade; 2020 put these kids through so much and I think it’s just as important to take time to teach emotional skills as it is academic ones. This week we’ve been focusing on bravery and I was fortunate to receive the perfect book for the theme! 🧡
The Boy in the Orange Cape is a tale about a school-aged boy named Cole who wears an orange cape every day to school, for a very important reason. When a bully makes Cole and his cape his target, the reader is left to wonder: what will happen to Cole and how will he react? My students loved Cole’s bravery through the story and the way that his problem is resolved. This book provided many chances for us to stop and discuss - you should’ve heard the great points they made!! We then thought of Cole’s cape and made a shield full of the things that make us feel brave. See what these #thirdgraders came up with!
